Formed in 2015 as a short film project by Akash Sunethkumara and his high school friends, High School Junkies began as a passionate creative outlet and grew into a respected Sri Lankan film production house known for championing frugal yet ambitious filmmaking.

 

Their second short, EIDETIC, made history as the first Sri Lankan film to screen at San Diego Comic-Con and went on to receive international acclaim. The shorts that followed raised the bar for YouTube filmmaking in Sri Lanka, fearlessly exploring diverse genres while delivering impressive production quality on modest budgets.

 

With their final short, Hooves — which has been officially selected at over 24 film festivals worldwide — the High School Junkies project has now successfully concluded.

 

This chapter has come to a proud end, and Akash Sunethkumara is now focusing on developing feature films outside the HSJ banner.
